I have cingular now, and for my birthday i need a new phone. Well, the only one i want in my eyes is a sidekick, butttt they don't have them at radioshack and my mom won't pay the extra money just to open up a t-mobile account.
Help?

Well, yes and no. Here's the deal: If you get the sidekick unlocked, you can use your Cingular sim chip in the device, however, you won't be able to use any of the sidekick's internet features (e.g. chat, email, etc.) Those features will only work on T-Mobile's service with a T-Mobile sim chip because the services are operated through the manufacturer's (Danger, Inc.) server. You will still be able to use the basic features in the phone on Cingular, but the main reasons for wanting to own a sidekick will be gone.

All the answers above are wrong. Sidekicks cannot be unlocked!! These are exclusive units that will only work with T-mobile and no other carriers.! I should know I manage a t-mobile store!! Only way to get a sidekick is through t-mobile. If someone says you can get one unlocked they are lying. The phone will not connect to no other towers other than tmobile. The sidekick has certain features that will not work on any other service..Therefore it is unlockable!!!!! So dont pay attention to the other answers, they are very wrong and incorrect!!

Yes. Buy one that's unlocked and you can use it with any GSM carrier.
