Fractions are used every day:
Automotive fuel gauges (1/2 tank, et.al.)
Cooking (ex.: 1/4 cup, 3/4 tbsp)
Landscaping and properties (ex.: 1/3 acre).
Mechanical SAE tools and measures (ex.: 9/16 inch socket or nut)
Driving distances and directions (ex.: 3/4's of a mile)
Sports lap measurements (to 1/100th of a second)
Laundry loads to figure out how much detergent is needed (full load vs. 1/2 a load) .
Progress reports (1/4 way done, half done, etc...)
ermh and don't tell them this one but when they say someone is half witted it means they are not too smart lol!
