Not only you can run homebrew, it also allows you to do the following:

- Run emulators of other game systems (such as Gameboy, Super Nintendo) so that you can play those games on your PSP

- Play commercial PSP Games you downloaded from the internet

- With hacked firmware 3.03 OE-c, you can play PS1 games.

- Modify your PSP XMB icons, game boot and sound.

Of course, you know all these except last one are illegal.

I agree with adam, but you don't need 3.03 CE for ps1 games. I'm running 2.80, but it might make it a little faster on 3.03. In addition, it's not really hacked firmware, your just adding onto the firmware. You can also:

-Play .AVI files

-Open .pdf files

-Text people(only verison users)

-Use it as a universal remote

-And much more

Yes, it's good because you can run homebrew games and other software. It also voids your warranty. Be careful.
