I am trying to buy a birthday gift for my friend's daughter who lives in Japan. What stuff from the United States are hot, popular items for Japanese girls? Toys? Movies? Clothes?

A ticket back to the US

We send our old Japanese friends clothes from Old Navy. A lot of Japanese know about Old Navy but I don't think there are many stores in Japan. Besides kids clothes are super expensive in Japan compared to the US so getting a few inexpensive shirts and pants from Old Navy as a present is pretty neat for the kids. Just a note- Shoes get an import tax for some reason, I don't know how it's figured but our friends got charged an import tax when we sent them some kids shoes... Good luck, kids are easy to shop for!

She would probably go crazy for an Easy-Bake-Oven. They don't have anything like that over here. Of course, anything Disney, ESPECIALLY Winnie the Pooh themed are extremely popular over here, and would get the girl really excited. I'd also throw in a few kinds of American sweets or crackers. It's always fun to try treats from other countries!

Disney stuff. (A fairly obscure character from the Aristocats named Marie is really popular among girls, but almost anything Disney is good, as long as it's cute.) Clothing with English words on it. Maybe stationery stuff, like a pencil case, from your hometown.

Don't send DVDs from America, because unless the recipients have a special region-free DVD player, it won't work in Japan.

What's your price range?

"OOHHHH Who lives in a pineapple under the sea...?SPONGE BOB SQUARE PANTS". Old Sponge Bob is getting quite popular here. If you can find key rings, small stuffed toys with a clasp, Candies, or anything Sponge Bob that can be "shown off" go for it.

I vote for the easy-bake oven. You could also throw in something that she could divide up and give to her friends, like a little package of Disney pencils or pens.
