A compound is not a mixture. A compound is two or more elements CHEMICALLY joined. They lose their old properties and take on new ones, and cannot be separated by physical means.

A mixture such as a colloid, suspension, or solution are materials which are only physically mixed together. They keep their old properties and may be easily separated by physical means - such as filtering.
