well first of all I cannot believe how many people do not even KNOW that Jodie is lesbian yes its true and so what? its just something that is not open for public discussion or perusal as far as she is concerned and thats respectable. HOWEVER I think she has in her own dignified way paid homage to her sisters l will always love the speech she gave when she won an Oscar for her role in Silence of the Lambs~~>"I'd like to dedicate this award to all the women before me that never had the chances that I've had, the survivors, the pioneers and the outcasts. My blood, my tradition. And I'd like to thank all the people in this industry who've respected my choices and have not been afraid of the power and dignity that that entitled me to" -- Oscar Acceptance Speech, 1992 Academy Awards, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Silence of the Lambs.

Perhaps because she isn't a lesbian? She may enjoy being single, she may not want to be tied down to anyone, and she may love her life exactly as it is. Ever see where she and her children live? The woman is highly intelligent (a member of Mensa, in fact) and seems quite happy leaving her personal life personal.
Just because a woman doesn't want a husband doesn't mean she's a lesbian. She isn't the type to speak out about her personal life in the media and I don't blame her in the least. She has never publicly confirmed or denied her sexuality. I know people say "Oh, but by not telling us it's a lie of omission" but the reality is that once she begins to answer rumors more will emerge and she'll have to answer them to. She is saving herself the trouble. If she is a lesbian, it's her business. She quite obviously enjoys the role of a single parent, and gets pleasure from being a strong, smart, single woman.
Also, in Jodie's defense, I should repeat again, she has NEVER publicly claimed to be gay (or straight, for that matter). I know people say she has and I'd like to see proof of that. Otherwise, it's all hearsay.

She was asked that very question by the gay alliance several years ago when she was up for an Oscar for the Lecter movie. She didn't say yea or nay and chose to ignore the question. I suppose that she prefers to remain in the closet for her own personal reasons.

You're killing me. Foster lesbian? Say it ain't so...my dreams are crushed.
I thought she looked beautiful in her low key, understated way. Little make-up but still a beautiful person. And smart too. Oh, yeah and director, actor, writer, mother.
Are you sure that you're not intimidated by strong woman?
She's still a knock-out no matter who she chooses to have as a life partner.

She has publicly acknowledged she is gay. Gay women have the right to dress up. Being gay doesn't mean you can't dress feminine. The Oscars isn't anything about ones sexual orientation. I think she was fine..

whether they are a celebrity, or just your next door neighbor....not everyone is comfortable with coming out. If they do it depends on when and if they are ready to do it. some people never do. I for one think she is, but, if she doesn't want to say so publicly, that's her personal business.

Jodie Foster isn't gay. Just because you think she is, doesn't mean it is so. Maybe she is too free-thinking or strong or independent. That's not what makes a woman gay.

Who knows? Maybe she's afraid she won't be able to work with her good friend Mel Gibson anymore (he's a homophobe).
But a friend said that she was definitely sleeping around with women when she was at Yale, and it wasn't a big secret.

Maybe she doesn't want everyone in her business. Why should she have to announce her sexuality?

She came out decades ago....and I think it's repulsive of you to think that a lesbian can't be glamorous.
