Hey. I'm 16 years old, and I've had problems with my period before, but this is almost ridiculous. First off, I'm not sexually active, and I have pretty healthy eating habits. I eat 3 fairly small meals a day, so I doubt it has anything to do with my body composition.

I haven't had my period since the beginning of august last year (I didn't have any problems, it lasted around a week or two as far as I remember). So in a few weeks it'll be 8 months since the end of my last period.

I mentioned my eating habits because I've gained a little weight.

Also, I asked a conselor at my school about it, and she got me to thinking. I've been quite emotional the past few months, more then usual.

I'm wondering if anyone has had similar problems, or even suggestions for me. I haven't seen a doctor because it never occured to me that something could be wrong (I know, pretty ignorant, huh?) until today when I had realized how long it had been.

Please help me.

Go to see a doctor to ease your mind. It may just be amenorrhea, which is just a fancy term for a lack of periods but it could be a sign of a larger problem.
Do a google search on amenorrhea and it will give you tons of websites with information to check your symptoms on.

Good Luck!

Don't worry. At your age, rarely is it serious concerning irregular periods. In older women, you may want to look at fibroids or endometriosis, but you're too young for that. What age did you start menstruating? It takes most girls a good 2-3 years after the onset of menstuation in order for the cycle to regulate itself. So it's very common to have irregular periods. And emotional stress absolutely can factor in. When my father passed away, I stopped having a period for 5 months. Nothing was wrong, it was just emotional stress. Try to de-stress if you can. Every day set aside some alone time while you engage in something pleasurable and relaxing. Talk about your problems with others to vent your emotions, it's a good way to resolve troubled feelings. If your periods don't become regular again, in lets say a few months, I'd go to your Gynecologist or family Doctor and get a thorough check up. You could possibly have a hormonal imbalance not due to stress, which would be easily treated with estrogen or progesterone. Good luck, hope this helped.

I skipped 6 months when I was in high school because I was so active in sports. It vaired a lot. Sometimes I'd skip 3 months. I never knew when I was going to start. Infact I didn't become "regular" until half way through my first year of college when I started birth control. I played sports through my first two years of college and even on birth control each period was a little different. Being emotional could have something to do with it. If you're depressed or too stressed you could stop having one and stress and depression could also make you gain weight. When youre 16 and around that age it can take awhile to become "regular". You already know you need to go to the doc. So just go...it could be nothing. But you wont know till you go!
