why did athena turned medusa's hair into snakes?

There are differing opinions about Medusa.

As well as the APHRODITE/Venus (not Athena) myth about bragging that her beauty rivaled that of the goddess of beauty there is a story that she and her sisters were always like that and that there was not a curse.

Athena turned Arachne into a spider for bragging that her weaving was as good as the goddess'.

because medusa thought she was all that and then athena tought her a lesson. and when medusa went to one of athena's temple there werew carvings of athena and medusa thought she would have been a better subject. then athena came and told her beauty isnt everything and then put snakes on her head. she did this at the Parthenon.

Snakes for hair, scaly poxed skin, and eyes so horrid that if you got caught in their gaze they'd turn you to stone. Poetic justice-- "You think you're so hot, NOW look at you!"

Medusa didn't just get snake hair. She was changed into a gorgon, almost -- the almost part is that she remained mortal, and thus could later be killed by Perseus.
