Don't lift heavy things. The cord can become wrapped around the baby's neck (or so I am told). Sex sometimes helps and so does long walks...but the baby will come when the baby will come. Some things won't be rushed.

First a disclaimer: You shouldn't even consider trying to begin your labor until you are around 40 weeks pregnant or overdue. That's because your due date could be inaccurate by a few weeks, and if you start your labor before 40 weeks, you might givebirth to the baby before he is ready to thrive outside the womb.

Now, that said, there a few ways that you could try to start labor, but nothing is foolproof or a guarantee.

Many women walk, A LOT. Walking stimulates the muscles in your uterus and may stimulate contractions.

It has been said that tea with thyme has induced labor for many women.

Eggplant parmegiana. It is said that it is not actually the eggplant that induces labor, but the seasonings added to the dinner. Basil and Oregano are said to contain herbs that supposedly can stimulate labor contractions.

Primrose oil - This is another natural product that is said to start contractions.

Acupuncture - This is sometimes used to induce labor by placing acupuncture needles on the inner calf and between the thumb and forefinger. You can also rub these 2 areas for 30 seconds each and that is supposed to induce labor.

Doctor Stripping Membranes - The doctor can strip your membranes by inserting 2 fingers into the woman’s uterus and moving them from side to side, pulling the membranes away from the cervix wall.

Raspberry Leaf Tea - This method was used by the Native Americans and is still sometimes used by midwives on their patients. The concept of it is based on all the others; it stimulates contractions.

Nipple Stimulation - This odd method causes oxytocin, which in turn makes your uterus contract.

Boil cinnamon sticks in with your tea and drink it, yummy and effective.

Relaxation exercises have been known to relax the woman into a state for labor to start. You can find a variety of relaxation exercises online.

It should be noted (again) that none of these ways should be used unless the you are near your due date. More than likely they will not work anyway unless the baby is ready to be born. You can give nature a little nudge but not a giant push.

Best of luck to you and best wishes for a healthy (and on time) baby!

Why do you want to induce labor? That is supposed to happen when the time is right for your baby. It will be right when mother nature says it's right. The baby should not be rushed or made to come any time but the right time. The doctor is the only one who should induce labor. He knows what is right for you and your baby. I've always heard that a baby is sort of like an apple on a tree. It will fall when it's ripe. The baby needs to develop to the right stage to be born. The doctor knows when that will be.
Please don't force something to happen that may not be ready. You will know when it's time. If you can't leave this alone, call your doctor. Haven't you ever heard, "Don't mess with mother nature." ??

Sounds like we are both in the same boat...I am at 38 weeks and 3 days..due March 12th and am also trying to naturally induce labour. I have been taking Raspberry Leaf tea. It is not suppose to induce labour, but I hear for some it does. Eating spicy foods (like chili), eating lots of pineapple, and walking an awful lot might get the ball rolling as well...so I hear..I have tried sex, the tea, and walking. I am getting A LOT of cramping and some back pain, but nothing more just yet. I guess the little one will come when he/she is ready. Good luck to you!

Haha I'm in the same boat. I've tried sex, and walking a lot, spicy food, bumpy rides... in the end the baby will just come when he/she is ready to come!

Don't lift heavy things :S and if you are going to try nipple stimulation, talk to your doctor first. Nipple stimulation can cause intense contractions that can put your baby under a lot of stress. (I read that in the Pregnancy Bible... a book that I have)... so be careful!

In the end, the baby has to come out sooner or later! Good Luck!

If you live in Los Angeles there is a restaurant that is known for serving salads that put women into labor. Something in the dressing. If not try walking, walking , walking. Go to the mall.

the only healthful and organic approaches that are shown to help bring about labour, is intercourse(orgasm releases oxytocin, it rather is what motives contractions) and nipple stimulation.. which does the comparable element as oragasm. dont purchase into the full.. castor oil element and in spite of... castor oil can certainly be risky! the two way, the infant wont come till the infant is able to return! dont problem approximately it yet! how dilated you're actually doesnt recommend a single element, you may desire to nevertheless bypass into energetic labour the following day. wher ei stay, they dont even verify your cervix till you're in labour because of the fact of that. and you nevertheless have desire!!! i replaced into having contractions for 2 days(no longer as undesirable because it sounds, basically stressful little issues) and finally had my daughter early ont he morning i replaced into meant to be triggered. you additionally can refuse to be triggered. you're allowed, you be responsive to. in accordance to my well being practitioner and the docs the place i stay, they bring about no longer because of the fact the infant valuable factors weight, yet because of the fact the infant LOSES weight after going previous term.. yet there is on no account a thank you to be responsive to once you're "due date" is and it rather is as much as the infant! edit-- the girl who stated hiking stairs and warm wings.. i doubt the nice and comfortable wings had something to do with it, yet curiously hiking stairs is sweet, too! it opens up your pelvis and facilitates the infant to drop extra down, which of direction, generally ends up in cervix replace!
