What is your opinion? It seems as though a lot of people are against declawing cats, but still dock dogs tails, crop their ears, etc. People say not to declaw because it is not medically necessary and is painful - yet what about docking and cropping? Why don't I seem to hear much negative talk about those procedures when they would seem to be just as unnecessary and painful?

I personally think its cruel to do any of it to a animal. Personally I feel that its all unnecessary to preform any of it. Its all for the " look" of the animal. There is nothing special going to happen to the animal. The only way I would have something like that done to my animals was if one had their tail broke and it had to be amputated. Other than that Its wrong. If they were not meant to have those parts then they would not be born with then.

I'm against all three, but I think the declawing is the worst because it frequently causes problems apart from the surgery/healing period immediate after. So not only is it painful but it can lead to cats not using the box, arthritis later on in life and biting problems. I don't think there are so many secondary complications with docking and ear cropping but then I don't know as much about dogs, perhaps I'm wrong and there are.

People doc and crop becuause cropping and doccing helps dogs not get infections in thier ears and that tail just gets in the way on the other hand declawing cats is just mean claws are cats only self defence if a cat snuck out side and like a dog was chasing it it could look back and rip up a dogs face to save itself, is that a good answer

I'm totally against declawing because the cat looses the last digit of each toe, which is the digit they ususally carry alot of weight on, once declawed they have to bare that weight on a different part of their toe. ( most animals carry 60 % or more of their wieght on the front legs) In kittens it's easy for them to cope right away just like any animal when it's young, but has been found to cause cats who are declawed later in life to walk differently-notice how alot of declawed cats are overwieght. makes you wonder if they are in pain, since cats can't talk it's had to tell.
docking and copping happens when dogs are young so just like kittens they are fine except neither cropping or docking causes probems for a dog later in life unlike declawing. I have seen people dock the tail of older dogs and they ususally can't walk for a few days, I guess because of balance after a short time they're fine. But in alot of developed and developing countries declawing is illegal, as is docking and cropping.

I think tail docking is worse than declawing because the puppies are awake for the procedure and scream the whole time. It's really disgusting. Ear cropping is OK with pain meds, but I would never crop a dog's ears. People who crop pit bull's ears don't even want pain meds half the time because they think their dog is "tough" and can take it. I always MAKE them take home pain meds. Jerks.

i'm with you. i do no longer see a ingredient incorrect with precise timed tail docking, dew claw removing, and ear cropping performed by utilising a qualified vet. i'm thoroughly against declawing cats too. it is in simple terms merciless. i do no longer think of you're being hypocritical in any respect because of the fact the approaches performed on canines are to ward off destiny harm on a similar time as declawing is finished in basic terms to maintain the lazy cat proprietor from having injury performed to his/her belongings. I say "lazy" cat proprietor because of the fact i've got self assurance that with suited play time, socialization, psychological stimulation, and environment (scratching posts, mountaineering trees, cat walks, cardboard packing containers with holes...) indoor cats do no longer could desire to tear up furnishings and the homestead. If a cat proprietor can no longer supply the above, he/she shouldn't very own a cat.

OK, so I had a doberman and choose not to crop her ears...and she suffered her whole life with chronic ear infections. My vet explained to me that due to deep ear canals they need to have their ears cropped in order for air to get into them and dry them out. Basically it's due to poor breeding for years and years - breeders bred poorly for years.

So as far as the tail, docking comes from dogs who hunt and work for a living..Docking is done to prevent the tail from becoming toast when in the stickers and weeds. It is normally done within the first week of life and though I'm sure there is pain, it is soon forgotten...

I personally am against all three. unless there is a serious injury and your vet tells you it needs to be medically done. it's cruel and they just do it so that they dog or cat will look better or not scratch on the furniture. What do you think of debarking a dog? I don't think they should have their vocal cords cut just because someone doesn't want to listen to barking. if you can't handle it don't get a dog is my opinion.

I just read that some, whoes dogs are work dogs, crop the tail to prevent the tail from being borken by being steped on by a cow or slammed in a gait.
