there are more reasons to legalize it than not ... but both side could make compelling arguments
why? the obvious reasons are medical ... the not-so-obvious has to do with the widespread casual use ... any kid in America can get it anytime they want ... so it should be controlled and taxed to protect our citizens ... and de-criminalized so that "pot-addicts"(not talking about violent offenders) can be put into treatment centers instead of prison
why not? the obvious is do we want to make yet another drug more socially acceptable that it already is? I don't think so ... the collective maturity of our country is not self aware enough to make healthy choices ... the not so obvious is a little comical and I'm not sure it would be true ... but I heard it, so I'll share ... there is a tremendous amount of "laundered" drug money in our banking system, and without blathering on about how it works to serve our government it is possible that legalizing it could cause our banking system to crash ... crazy huh? ... not to mention the jails would have to open their doors and flood the streets with "dealers" that would no longer have a business
what I will say is this ... Prohibition didn't work for alcohol, and it hasn't worked from pot

After reading through the answers listed here is mine. I think that Mary Jane should be legalized for many reasons. 1 the medicinal purposes. Cancer patients, Alzheimer's, Glaucoma. As pointed out by some other opinions it is not as harmful as alcohol and that's legal. Plus if they would legalize it then sell it, with as many people that smoke how fast would this country be out of debt? I have never heard of anyone smoking a joint and then wanting to beat some one up but I hear all the time about people getting drunk and wanting to go fight somewhere. I think that the commercials they have a false advertisements. They show the girl sitting on the couch half melted and talking about getting high, or the one with the people in the drive thru that hit the kid crossing the street. Compare the number of accidents involving just alcohol and the number of accidents involving just weed. I bet they are a lot less. So which do you think should be legal and which should not. And keep this as a final reminder. Man made booze, GOD made pot. GOD is perfect, Man is not.

I have never used the stuff but my brother does for severe depression.I've heard that it makes you want a bigger high so you go on to harder drugs but that hasn't been the case with him. He's 54. If what you are saying is true and marijuana is less harmful than alcohol then I see no reason not to legalize it. Since I don't know much about it what would it do if people mixed alcohol with marijuana?
Sorry to put a question in there.

it already is legalized in some states i believe...
as the great lazyboy puts it:
Why is marijuana not legal? Why is marijuana not legal?
It's a natural plant that grows in the dirt.
Do you know what's not natural?
80 year old dudes with hard-ons. That's not natural.
But we got pills for that.
We're dedicating all our medical resources to keeping the old guys erect,
but we're putting people in jail for something that grows in the dirt?
You know we have more prescription drugs now.
Every commercial that comes on TV is a prescription drug ad.
I can't watch TV for four minutes without thinking I have five serious diseases.
Like: "Do you ever wake up tired in the morning?"
Oh my god I have this, write this down. Whatever it is, I have it.
Half the time I don't even know what the commercial is:
people running in fields or flying kites or swimming in the ocean.
I'm like that is the greatest disease ever. How do you get that?
That disease comes with a hot chick and a puppy.

YES! There are practically no negatives to legalizing it! It would be better because less people would die....
1.no one has ever died from smokin weed
2. who smokes some weed then wants to get up and go drive a car or go out and party?!
3. There are no hangovers or anything like with alcohol.
4. its a PLANT, somthing in nature.. how hamful could it be?
5. yes it may kill some brain cells but drinking alcohol has many more disatvangages!
6. It can be used for medical purposes
7. Hopfully, everyone would chill out & peace could be spread
8. Alcohol can make many people violent, which can lead to much much worse things
9. Kids would be so much safer, because right now kids are doing whatever they have to, to get it cuz its shocking what some ppl do to get it.
10. All the stuff on tv about how you gunna become a coke addict if you smoke weed once?!? is so dumb cuz its not related at all.
11. most importantly.. You have fun, so whats the harm in it? yeah you will kill your brain cells but thats your choice, its not like if they legalize it they will force you to smoke it.
personally i would rather have fun now when im young and be like brain dead when im like 70? cuz its not like your going to be doing much partying <3

Yes it should. Taxed, and controlled like liquor and tobacco. There would be less offenders in jail, or court rooms, and fewer tax dollars spent on chasing them down. BUT, I feel people that use alcohol, tobacco, and/or drugs should sign a waiver to disability, and medical subsidies. AND if they cause injury to others, they should be incarcerated as if they beat someone. If death is caused from the influence, then they should receive a rapid death sentence. Or put to work where all the money they make go to support those injured.
Good plan. Right?

there are a number of the explanation why Marijuana could desire to be Legalized there are a number of reasons That Marijuana could desire to be Legalized Marijuana is a arguable concern in maximum everywhere in the international. there are a number of the explanation why marijuana is understood to be a arguable subject count, be it the psychoactive outcomes on the strategies or the long term outcomes on the completed human physique. those subject concerns could be argued with info of the useful outcomes of hashish sativa (marijuana) in the human physique. additionally with the financial subject concerns of the drug as an commercial product. in the beginning, we are going to look on the assessment by utilising many between tobacco and marijuana. Marijuana while in comparison with tobacco is six cases extra depleating to the lungs, that's often offset with the indisputable fact that tobacco is addicting bodily the place marijuana isn't. Marijuana smoked in the comparable quantity as tobacco is extra delapitating to the physique, yet if you consider that marijuana isn't addictive bodily there is not any longer a choose for the comparable quantity to be smoked. this suggests in basic terms that if a individual have been dependant on marijuana as they have been tobacco, then the marijuana could have this sort of profound actual consequence. Secondly, there is an undermining cultural attractiveness of marijuana in the time of i do no longer think of it is going to be legalized however... i advise there are such various nonsmoking places now ...they gained't legalize marijuana while they are approximately to make tobbacco unlawful.

It's probably only as harmful as alcohol when it comes to intoxication (even less harmful because you can't die from marijuana poisoning), but it's harder to regulate.
How can you set a legal limit on how much you can smoke and drive? It's easy to determine a blood alcohol level, but we can't measure marijuana as precisely.

tough question. should alcohol be legal? should cigarettes be legal? marijuana smoke is 5 times worse for your lungs than cigarettes, and if it were legalized, the tobacco companies would probably start growing it and add nicotene or some other addictive chemical to it so we'd all just sit around coughing and staring at cobwebs up in the corner thinking,'wow dude, that web is awesome, man......'

Yes. It is far less harmful than cigarettes or alcohol. The only reason it is not legal is because its origins are in the Native American and Black communities. White people were afraid of it and banned it due to racism.
