How were the Moors viewed by other groups of people in medieval Europe?

Specifically if a Moorish person was living in an area other than somewhere ruled by the Moors, what was their place in society?

Since it was so rare, I doubt it made much of and impact. It was not at all like now. International travel was almost unknown to the masses.
