Do scientists sometimes give out statistics that are already obvious to people with brains?

Whenever I see a new statistic out, sometimes I think scientists think society is stupid. For example, 4 - 10 people are most likely to bump into something if they don't turn the light on if it's dark. Have you ever heard of a stupid statistic before?

All the time-- especially that "the best way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat less and exercise more" DUH!
