the south seceded because Lincoln was elected president and they felt that they were going to be dismissed and not listened to by the government, especially over the slave issue.

Well, if it is for geography and you need... DETAILE (whatever that is), then, here you go: the South decided to secede from the Union because the Union didn't represent its rights properly. I mean, they were covered in MOUNTAINS of files! They asked the Union to give them more helpers to... help finish their work, but, after they cried RIVERS, the Union decided to give them just one more worker: Miss NORTH. She was so beautiful! All the other workers were head over HILLS in love with her and that caused a lot of emotional EARTHQUAKES... To make a long story short, they decided to secede from the Union and separate from Miss NORTH. And that is how the Americans re-invented the compass.

Everyone always thinks that it was only because of slavery and that the south mis treated slaves. May I remind everyone that most slaves were treated like family and the north had them too. Slavery was one reason, but it was also because up until this time states thought of themselves as seperate countries and didn't want to be told how to live. People in the south lived differently than people in the north and it suited them best to leave.

The real issue that caused the sucessions was differences in philosophy over how the country should be run.
It was mostly economics related to farming vs manufacturing. The north had primarilly manufacturing and services based economies and the south's economy was based on farming to produce cotton, tobacco and other high value crops.
The south had fewer votes in the House of Representatives due to the fact that slaves didn't count as a whole person in calculating population. That geve unequal representation in determining which laws passed. (for a long time a slave didn't count at all...)
Slavery was a side issue really. It was only AFTER the souther states succeeded that the slave issue was tied to the war.

Because they didn't want The North telling them what to do. Slavery was the last thing the civil war was really about.
Now go read a book and do your own homework.
Hint-- check out works from Shelby Foote.
