This is my second pregnancy but I still have questions. I have been sick for most of my 10 1/2 weeks of pregnancy and having really eaten I think too much or anything out of the ordinary. Last time I saw the nurse it was too confirm I was pregnant and take blood tests. That was January 17th. I came back on the 28th (today) and I had gained 4lbs! In a month! I know that is alot because most women do not gain at all or even lose weight in the first trimester. She also felt my uteras and said it was big. I was freaking out because I had been scared to death that they were either going to find nothing on the screen or they were going to say TWINS. Well they went in there and only one.. :)

She said everything looked good but I had concern about the weight gain? They say I am only 10 weeks and a 3 days along.

I am well aware that a 30LB weight gain is the norm but during my first pregnancy I was told most women do not gain all that much weight in the first trimester. My first pregnancy I gained all of 2lbs in the first trimester and the nurse said it was good.

I also have not been eating junk

I also mentioned the "large" Uterus

What would cause it too be larger than usual?

Don't worry about the weight gain. Just make sure that you're getting enough nutrition to nourish your growing baby, but not gaining so much that you become at risk for gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia. Four pounds is not that big a deal.

Well you have to remember its not just a baby in there. There is amniotic fluid and a placenta and an ever growing uterus. This alone may be causing the 4lb weight gain. I am 32 weeks pregnant with twins and by 12 weeks I gained 10lbs. I think you are doing well with your weight gain. If there was something wrong your nurse or Dr would have mentioned it. Good Luck and Congrats!!

Weight gain varies from person to person, but a good rule of thumb is that if you gain more that 15 pounds during your entire pregnancy, your probably going to have more excess weight to lose after the baby is born. Try to substitute some of your cravings. If you want ice cream, to sorbet or frozen yogurt instead. If you want something sweet, try strawberries with a little whipped cream instead of a bar of chocolate. Just making small changes could make a huge difference in the end. Good luck with everything.

Gain all you can so the baby can be big and healthy, Eat Total cereal for full nutrition.
Most women gain 30-75 lbs and lose it after the baby comes.

I wouldn't worry about your weight gain. I am 25 weeks and have gained about 20 lbs so far, half of it in just 4 weeks!
