I'd say that in the 1500s, it was--and I suppose it is still today--an attempt to apply humanist principles and concerns to questions of religion. Desiderius Erasmus, for example, the most important of the Christian humanists, criticized the Catholic Church for the behavior of people, not the Church's stance on theological questions. You could argue that Christian humanism of this sort contributed to the Protestant reformation.

"Christian Humanism" is an oxymoron.

for those of you who don't know... "oxymoron" = a statement that contradicts itself.
