Do schools buy at retail, at discount, or at wholesale?

Wholesale, after all they are ordering well over 200 books per subject.

Since schools make great customers some businesses will give them additional discounts to insure their business. Also many business love to deal with teachers so they will give them a discount as well. These business are those devoted to a narrow field and are not the ones that you usually come across day to day, but they are out there.

It depends on the company, but anyone who buys in bulk should be able to get a discount, even you.

Well, I write requisitions all year long at school. I shop from the business supply catalogs that our school uses. I can tell you that it would be SO much cheaper if I could just go to Walmart and buy stuff. Stuff like staples, post-its, sharpie markers, colored paper, etc. is expensive to order! However, when ordering books for the school library, I can usually get a good deal.
