How to clean 40 year old colour slides before transferring them to a CD.?

The slides appear to be affected by mould or mildew. They are Kodak slides from about 1962.

I would just scan them at highest resolution then clean then up in Photoshop. Otherwise there are special brushes and puffers you can buy from photographic shops and studios made for getting rid of lint.
