I would say that he doesn't..famous people get loads of fan mail and with busy schedules wouldn't be able to read and answer them all. So the assistant probably will write the responses. But i'm just guessing...

I check my fan mail personally. It depends on what people do. Sometimes I am too busy to check emails, so i ask my assistant(s). Other times I can answer all of them.
