If *all* you have is a UoP degree, then possibly it's not the best credential. However, if you have years of experience and other great assets to bring to the table, any HR person or hiring manager that tosses your resume for simply attending there is an idiot and you'd be better off not working there anyway. Don't listen to the people that say "all" HR people or companies discredit UoP degrees. That itself shows you how stupid they are themselves. It's illogical. There's no possible way they could know what every company, hiring manager or HR rep thinks. Have they conducted a survey of them all or something? If so, I'd love to see a URL posted to prove it. Show us some statistics on the number of companies who's policy it is to NOT hire graduates from there. It's just ignorant opinions, period. It's an accredited university and it will get you into an accredited grad school. If you don't believe it, just contact the admissions office of any local university and ask.

The short answer is no. While the University of Phoenix is an accreditated (yes this is the proper spelling) school, the fact that its admission criteria are subjective and its academic structure is unconventional makes those who look at its graduates' accomplishments somewhat skeptical.
From a NY Times article 2-11-07:
"The University of Phoenix became the nation’s largest private university by delivering high profits to investors and a solid, albeit low-overhead, education to midcareer workers seeking college degrees.
But its reputation is fraying as prominent educators, students and some of its own former administrators say the relentless pressure for higher profits, at a university that gets more federal student financial aid than any other, has eroded academic quality."

Talk to any HR person in any company....and they will tell you that as soon as they see "The University of Phoenix" on a resume....they put it aside and only look at it after people with REAL university degrees are considered. I'm sure this isn't something you want to hear...but it is true. You really should consider attending an institution of higher learning which has degrees/certificates that are worthwhile.

For all intensive purposes U. of Phoenix is an accredited University and any degree conferred is a standard University degree. Only 9% of UP students graduate, so it is still an accomplishment.
Some employers will judge it as a sub-standard degree, others will not.

I heard that some employers do not acknowledge online degrees. But I have seen many employers who hires individuals who completed degrees from online universities. In my opinion, as long as the university is accredited, your degree will be equivalent to a standard university degree.
