In those with free elections, yes absolutely.
You can't really make the claim when you have hereditary monarchs.

No, If every nation had the politicians or leaders that their citizens deserve then only the people who voted got who they wanted, which is obviously not true. Every time I vote, my choice of Representative looses, so I'm stuck with the other candidate who's majority won. But won by HOW MUCH??? If you look at the stats: the votes often show the loser's had the populous vote or at least near half, but lost out by a small amount. This says that the politician who won didn't have the full trust of all he/she's area.
Regarding undemocratic countries... no one deserves those leaders, but when you're repressed/oppressed its hard to fight against terror & fear from those with the bigger guns & ruthless nature.
The saying which you pose as a question has always been used as a retort in jest, esp. when discussing politics or something pertaining to a negative. To bluntly say..."it serves you right!" (which is also just a saying. Both are meant as a ridicule... but none the less a saying that is "BASED" on a truth).

Of course they do. Every citizen has the right to go out into the streets and overtake their politicians at any given time..... there are more citizens than politicians. Might i remind you of how Freedom was obtained in America? Perhaps it is time that the citizens rose once again....hummmm? And not just in this nation...

No freakin way. America would have much better politicians if more people voted. We have great American Idols because more people vote for that than a general election. It's sad. We deserve more, but nobody wants to make a difference!

If there are fair elections, then you can make that argument, but even then some politicians get elected by misleading the voters, so in that sense they do not deserve them.

Yes that is true... It's biblical too... God put in the hands of men to pick and choose the type of leaders and gov't they want. The problem is...everyone thinks their charlatan, crook, liar, thief.... is better than the other party charlatan, crook, liar and thief. Its always the lesser of two evils...

We may not 'deserve' them, but it's our job to remove them when necessary.
