No, you're not too old or too fat. You're probably to old to become famous or dance with a really big company, but if you just want to dance for yourself, then do it. I stopped dance & gymnastics as a child for the same reasons [too big/too tall], and I've always regretted it, and in high school I talked myself out of dance cause I thought [at age 16, 5'10", & 160 pounds], I was too old & fat then. I'm 24 now, and overweight, but I just started ballet & love it, not to mention I'm losing weight like crazy from dancing. So, yeah, go ahead and dance now cause the earlier you start the better, and don't worry what other people think or say, go with what makes you happen.

With Ballet, every thing is in line with balance.
Are you able to stand on your toes and stay in place for a little while? When you spin around, are you able to hold your ground or do you get dizzy and spin out of control?
You may even consider taking a yoga class to learn to stretch your muscles and find your center of gravity. Then maybe take an aerobics class to see how well you can maintain muscle control.
Plus, when you take Ballet lessons there is the cost of the slippers, outfits, and the costumes for recitals.

It is never late
Give it a try
I am sure you will love it
And it was harsh 4 your old teacher to say that
Once you do ballet you can do mostly any other dance like hip hop or jazz
Good Luck
Ballerina

You are never too old or fat to dance for yourself, but you might be to dance professionally. (I also had the same dream but you can't be a ballerina with a 34 DD chest)

No, and don't let anyone tell you you are too fat. I wish I had not quit my ballet lessons b/c I felt fat. I later lost weight. It will keep you in shape anyway.
