ok, he's what I would suggest you read. I read some book awhile ago called the Bartimeus trilogy. It deals with magic and stuff similiar to the Harry Potter books and should be at about your level

in the eighth grade try reading "The Outsiders", "Out of time" "Both sides of time" "Prisoner of time"- those are easy reading level and great fun. Then next year try moving on to "Gone with the Wind" or "Anna Karenina" or "Pride and Prejudice"

Read the JRR Tolkien serries (no it is not the same to see the movies) also try "1984" by george orwell, "Brave New World" whose authors name I have forgotten and anything by Harlan Ellison.
