A lot of the tyres go to be recycled if only the tread is bad, they put new treads on and sell them as retreaded. Some go to be recycled into road surfaces. I know in Australia the rubber is granulated and mixed with other substances then used to resurface roads, great for non-slip. Most if not all tryes can certainly be and are in fact recycled. I know in India believe it or not they make shoes out of them.

Tyres that are no longer wanted usually end up in two places. Either at most motor racing venues to be used for crash barriers or they are recycled to make new products that are not necessarily tyres. I know there were trainers made from old F1 tyres for the soles. They were a wee bit expensive though.

Its a big problem and they get taken away by your paying about three quid a tyre by a company who shreds them up for other uses and they can't find many uses

Some tires are still useable in other countries. Those that cannot be resold go to many uses. Some are used to fuel factories, some are processed to be used in concrete for roads, and some end up in the landfill.
