Why, Mr. Anderson? Why do you do it? Why get up? Why keep fighting? Do you believe you're fighting for something? For more that your survival? Can you tell me what it is? Do you even know? Is it freedom? Or truth? Perhaps peace? Yes? No? Could it be for love? Illusions, Mr. Anderson. Vagaries of perception. The temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose. And all of them as artificial as the Matrix itself, although only a human mind could invent something as insipid as love. You must be able to see it, Mr. Anderson. You must know it by now. You can't win. It's pointless to keep fighting. Why, Mr. Anderson? Why? Why do you persist?

If The Matrix asked you this, what would you say?

And out of the Pandora's box came all the evils and lies of the world, but there was one thing left at the bottom: hope.

This life really is just a treadmill of repeated events, occurring when we are obligated to act. I live for the moments of uncontinuity and abbarition from the norm. Those moments are the things that keep me on this useless leash. Hoping for more is what we all aspire for.....but why? What does more represent? More to keep track of?? more to control?
Also we have people that have shown us Love and compassion, and the pain that we would cause them if we failed to try would be so painful for them, that would cause me misery. I attempt to live and leave as little negative impact on those around me as possible.
What would be the alternative?? lying in bed looking out the window?
Our existence is feeble, but that is all we have. Life is only valuable to that which it is taken from.

Agent Smith is evil, and is lying about reality. (he is much like Descartes’ evil genius) He may be able to speak to me about his supposed "reality", and do much to convince me that his reality is true, while mine is false. However, as long as I hold my beliefs, I (in doing so) effectively defy the reality of Smith. My act(s) of defiance against the rules of Smith's reality PROVES that Smith's reality is false. Or, at the very least, that it's not as powerful as MY reality.

This is hardly a metaphor. Those who are able to convince the biggest number that what they say is the truth, are the ones who determine the truth.

History's greatest philosophers are responsible for how we think, judge, and view our world. Even if you've never read a word they said. How? Because those who DO control how things work in this world HAVE read what these great thinkers said. They appreciate(d) it's importance - good or bad - and wrote the laws and created the world's governments along these (various) lines. Being brought up within the system, we all hold certain (presumably true) concepts as undeniable. And most of these assumptions make sense as well.

When someone (of clearly great ability) gains a better sense of what reality is - that person is able to show the benefits of their clearer perspective. In so doing, they will (at least, in time?) be able to "convince" people of the usefulness of their "more true" reality.
