Oliver Stone's Platoon, 1986. Still the gold standard for any war film. Great acting. Forrest Whitaker (best actor, Oscar this year) has a nice role it it, by the way. Charlie Sheen, Willem Dafoe, Tom Berenger, a great Oscar deserving role by Keith David, Johnny Depp in a minor role, Kevin Dillion playing the crazy Bunny (truly nuts). A tremendous film, great acting, great music.
