World War II was fought between the allied nations of England, France, Russia, and later the US against the axis nations of Germany, Japan, and Italy (Italy didn't do much). The war began when England and France declared war on Germany for invading Poland. Russia at that time was on Germany's side but changed sides when Hitler made the descision to invade Russia. Meanwhile the Japanese were invading other countries in Asia. The US stayed nuetral until the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. France was invaded by Germany and surrendered early in the war. London got bombed by the Germans but the British never surrendered and Russia almost lost to Germany but eventually drove the Germans out. In the end the Americans, British, and Russians defeated Germany and Japan surrendered after the US dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
