We added my daughter to our policy a month or two ago and then I lost my job this month and wanted to temporarily take my daughter off of the newly implemented policy and go back to the old one. When I asked the GEICO representative on the phone if it was possible to go back to my old policy, she said she would check with her supervisor -- a few mins later she came back and say "sorry, no - because once your daughter got her license she is required by VIRGINIA LAW to get coverage".
So I asked, "does that mean I'm screwed" -- literally I asked that question and you know what she said ?
"That's right sir"...
...I think I'll be looking for a new insurance company tomorrow morning.
PLEASE LET EVERYONE KNOW GEICO USES BAIT AND SWITCH TECHNIQUES TO KEEP CUSTOMERS LOCKED INTO EXPENSIVE CONTRACTS WITH THEM.

Bait and switch means they advertised something to you and later on tell you something that obviously wasn't covered in the contract.
In my case, GEICO said it was in my contract -- it was not -- I know, because I just went through it with a fine toothed comb.

This is NOT the first time GEICO has screwed me. A couple of years ago they took SEVEN MONTHS to review a claim I had made during a hurricane when a lady was nice enough to rear end my truck as I sat out on I-95 in the pouring rain.
Result ? They denied the claim and charged me the $500 deductible to fix my truck...Basically, I'm paying for insurance that doesn't really insure me against much...

You did not describe "bait and switch" in your case. The woman explained the state's auto law to you. If your daughter is a licensed driver, she has to have insurance.
Your only option would be to cancel your insurance and buy elsewhere, knowing that you are violating a law by not including your daughter.
You may be guilty of insurance fraud, if you don't fully list all family members when you buy insurance.
Bait and switch means someone advertises something at a low price then forces you to buy something more expensive when you try to buy the lower priced item.

It wasn't bait and switch. Don't expect any better treatment from any other insurance company. Their prime responsibility is to protect their stock holders. which means to sell as many policies as possible and pay as few claims as they can legally get away with. And I personally don't like the way they treat cavemen people- who don't believe in the concept of insurance.

i find them to be cheaper and more reasonable/fair than progressive. no single insurance company makes the law. although the insurance lobby does have a hand in creating certain laws.

Pretty much every insurance company requires that you put every driver in your home on your policy.

You're switching policies. You're at fault. Not theirs. Should have kept the old policy.
