Do you think being aware of postpardom symptoms would help in keeping yourself from the feeling of it? I'm halfway through my pregnancy and just curious. I checked Brooke Shields book out of the library and will research the subject on my own. I am just curious of what moms think of the subject. Thank you in advance.

depression is an illness, you won't be able to prevent it from happening if it does. BUT, reading about it and knowing the symptoms is VERY important so you can address it with your OB if it happens to you!

I think it helps. I had severe postpardom symptoms after my child was born and unfortunately I didn't get medical help. My husband was worried if I discussed it with anyone the system would take my child. So, I suffered and I think in the long run it wasn't good for our family.

If you recognize any symptoms, talk to your doctor, they can help balance you out by either just giving you someone to talk with or prescription medication. I've got friends who took the meds and had success with them. I only wish I had talked to my doctor when I recognized I had a problem.

When I heard about Brooke Shields experience and when she came out and discussed it, I was so relieved to know that someone was finally bringing postpardom up in public.

I have to applaud her courage to speak out and I'm sorry but I will never ever forgive Tom Cruise for his statements after...I don't even care that he apologized to Brooke, what a pompous arrogant (excuse my language) ***.

Good luck with your pregnancy.

I really don't think you can do anything to prevent it. I had it with my first and third. Just be aware of it after you have the baby. If you are still not feeling like yourself at your six week check-up say so. Keeping it to yourself will not do anyone any good.

The symptoms are very easy to recognize. I knew I had it with my first, without anyone telling me and my second wasn't as bad, but still apparent.
