Bonds are money put up by a lender to guarantee that the person arrested will come back for court appearances. Once the person appears in court, the money is given back to the company that put up the bond. The person who obtained the bond pays a fee to said company, so the company makes its profit and can keep offering bonds.

In Michigan you cannot be bonded for child support. I am not sure of the exact reasons, but it has to do with any money being put for bond/bail is given to the FOC to go toward arrears and not being returned to the company offering up the bond.

Tell him to get a bail bondsman or anyone else to lend him $20k. That's the only way around it.
