I have medications that didn't work out for me... I get migraines & depression, and they have tested me on certain drugs-that just didn't work right. Most the medications, I have bought with my own money (with insurance) and then, I have SAMPLE packs given to my by the doctor.

I have them stored up in my house because I can not bear to throw them away knowing that so MANY people can not afford to pay for prescriptions, yet I am pretty sure I can not advertise them for someone to take-- b/c they are prescription and I am not a doctor.... Is there any place that take donations of that sort? I have blood pressure medication, medication that treats depression, and medications that treat seizures... They are all still "good", as I am STILL in the process of finding the right combo. It sucks to just throw them away, I know people struggle to pay for these EXACT medications. Just curious, if anyone had a suggestion.

Thanks for the answers. I feel incredibly guilty about throwing them away.. I really can not bring myself to do it, so they sit in my cabinet... I guess I will just keep these medications until their expiration date is up & then discard them- as if that will make me feel better- It is soooo sad, it makes me feel incredibly guilty and sad to throw them away- I know I could be helping someone a little by giving them these medications (if they have a doc's prescription already)... Anyhow, I am going to call a few charity/free clinics in HOUSTON (where I live) and see if they can take them...otherwise, they will go in the toilet once they have expired-so sad :(

It is not only you and me who throw medication, it's the whole country who are prescribed medication they don't need. I am a former doctor, and when I need some medication, I have to wait an hour at least at the doctor's cabinet to have a prescription, and yet, he never wants to prescribe the safest medication I know, or what my family needs.
He always prescribes some new medication, supposedly it's a very good one. When it doesn't work, and I go back to him, he tells me to try another medication HE LIKES!!!
I tell him it's not the medication you like, but the one we need, that you should prescribe, and he does not care.
So keep on throwing your medicines, until all the conventional medicine change their system of working.
No other better solution!!!

Throw them away if they are expired. I know, it sounds cruel and heartless. But it's the safe thing to do. Even for yourself. Never take an expired medication or administer it to anyone else.

IN MY MIND IT ISNT SAFE TO GIVE THEM TO SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE IF THEY O/D ON THEM OR THEY HAVE A NEGATIVE REACTION ETC ETC ETC THEN ITS POSSIBLE YOU COULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE . I WOULD HANG ONTO THEM AND EVEN AFTER THE EXPIRATION DATE THEY CAN BE TAKEN. IF YOU WANT TO DISPOSE OF THEM PROPERLY FLUSH THEM IN THE TOILET AND PITCH THE EMPTY CONTAINERS AFTER TEARING OFF THE LABELS. NOW IF YOU HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS BEEN PRESCRIBED THESE MEDICATIONS THATS A DIFFERENT STORY MOST LIKELY.
