Hey I'm going to Boston next april. Does anybody know a cheap place to sleep at? I'm going with a friend and we're both students...
The closer it is to downtown the better cause we're only staying there 4 days so we dont want to spend to much time on the subway, bus or whatever...

Here are three you can look at. All three are downtown.

A Hostelling International Bos www.bostonhostel.org
12 Hemenway St, Boston, 02115 - (617) 536-9455

B Beantown Boston International Hostel
234 Friend St, Boston, 02114 - (617) 723-0800

C Elder Hostel Inc
11 Avenue De Lafayette, Boston, 02111 - (617) 426-7788

You can also try:

Another thing to do is if you know any friends in the area or if you're in a fraternal organization.

As for the subway, it's pretty efficient, so that part's not too bad.

Good luck!

I stayed at HI-Boston last September. It's a really decent place for the money in a good location. My room slept 6 and people were respectful. I would ask for a room facing away from the street as it gets a little noisy with people who may hang out on the porch. The common areas are kept clean. Always wear flip-flops in the shower, not super clean. The staff is fairly friendly. Basically, you get what you pay for. Always lock up your things...always! Some of mine went missing due to the over-enthusiastic cleaning staff. The hotel recouped what I lost, so I left with a good taste. It's in a great location!! 5 minutes from the subway station and near restaurants and pharmacies. It's in a very youthful area, near Berkley College of Music. Check out their website. I would stay there again. Also check out www.tripadvisor.com . It's a great website for checking out places to stay. Another thing, Boston is so compact, you can walk a lot of it in one day, if you are fairly active. It's not necessary to stay downtown for a good time. Though much of the historical places are near downtown, it's kind of dead in the evening. The metro is so good and quick, you would be fine if stayed someplace outside of downtown. I went for 4 days and saw everything I needed to see. The only place where there isn't a subway stop is in the North End (little Italy). The closest drops you near Gov. Center and it's about a 10 minute walk with some stairs. Still it's all do-able. The best guide I purchased was Insight Boston with color pics and maps. There are a lot of free tours as well. Research before you go.

Cheap hotel + boston = not going to happen.

It's expensive as heck around here. You're better of looking for a hotel in the surrounding cities.

Hi, I don't know anything that can be of help in regards to hostels, however I do know a website for you to sign up to, and become a free member. They offer free accommodation all over the world if it may be of interest to you.
