I find the whole business very disturbing. I would never have allowed my children to take part in anything like that.

This is parents trying to live through their children and yes it is sick!! They are children for such a small time in their life and parents shouldn't waste this precious time by making making them look like little women - what all that make up is doing to their baby skin doesnt bare thinking about

YES they should... need you really ask this question... WHY should they be banned because they teach young children that it's all about beauty that if you are not "beautiful" then they will never be successful at anything in life. look at these young girls, they try to change appearance because they want to be "pretty". what is "pretty" anyways? They SHOULD be replaced with contests of intelligence and skill we should be teaching our children that how they do in life is based on skills and this will be valued more than stuff like who's hair looks better, who's clothes are better, who looks the best... I guess we can thank Hollywood for this…

If there is a 7 year old girl who honestly wants to go up on stage, get all pretty and talk to lots of adults, that's fine. It is that little girl's decision, and if it is fun for her, she should be allowed to do it as long as she want.
But what I really don't like is the parents who push their children into pageants. How could you feel good about yourself when you know your child hates performing for people? That's stupid.
Being in pageants should depend on whether or not they want to. The parents who push their children into this are treating their children....not very nice.

I feel really bad for the kids that are entered. Most of them are too young to give their input so their parents are practically forcing them to participate. Sure, many of them grow up to enjoy being in pagents, bu that's only because they were raised that way and don't know any better. I think they should set some kind of age limit on the children that are entered, if not completely ban them at all.

Yes, I don't think they should have child beauty pageants. I mean why start children out young feeling insecure of how they look and their bodies? Seeing if your child wants to go to dance or do gymnastics and maybe have recitals is a little different, as long as parents are not pushing them into it. My child loves to go to dance and is so excited about her first recital to dance on stage!
But, beauty pageants are all about looks and who's the cutest or the prettiest. Let them be young and carefree for as long as possible. Do away with the pageants!

you should attempt absolutely going to at least one...it really is scary. truly some human beings tried to cajole my mom to enter me into pageants at the same time as i became youthful, and she (being from the modeling career) knew precisely what went on throughout those issues. Her reasoning to me at the same time as i became little became that she "did not pick to stay vicariously by me, and that i ought to make my own judgements and not at all be compelled into them." some toddlers would like the pageants, and that is tremendous, yet as for the makeup and the spray tans, and the hairspray, and the clothing, and then the attitudes that the youngsters get from going to those products, and the shortcoming of sleep that they get, is overboard...if no longer banning them, per chance proscribing the plastic look and going for oh, i do not comprehend...organic attractiveness, perhaps? I advise, they're toddlers!

I don't think of it so much as a pedophilia issue, just.....do we want to teach our children at a young age that it's all about beauty? Mere physical appearance? I remember when I was young wanting to be pretty (I think every girl does). I cannot imagine if my world had incorporated a childhood BEAUTY regime and I watched another girl get a tiara and flowers etc because everyone in the room had thought she was prettier than me.
How does one do that to a young psyche?
Yes. Ban them. They could certainly be replaced with contests of intelligence, skill or artistic merit, thereby teaching children that they should cultivate their inner skills and gifts and this will be valued.

I also think that it should be banned because parents force their kids to think, "Oh, look at that pretty girl on the Little Mini Miss Pageant! Why aren't you as pretty as her?" And then, the child starts feeling as if she doesn't have enough confidence.
I really think that little girls shouldn't be treated like dirt! People are beautiful in their own ways! They shouldn't be forced into pageants.

I agree with you, totally. Kids are supposed to be kids. Children shouldn't be wearing bikinis and being shown off in public. These parents are just living through their kids, forcing them what to do and exploiting them in front of a crowd. It should be banned for kids under a certain age, and if they don't want to it, they shouldn't have to. It's unfair to kids who have to grow up like that...thinking that life is all about physical appearance and how "pretty" they are with all of their make up and fake smiles.
I feel bad for those kids...let them make that decision when they get older.
