We are going to Florida at from May 25th to June 3rd. We want to go to Orlando for part of it but we don't want to be committed to a schedule so we wanted to find places to stay after we get there. Will it be hard to find decent places to stay that week since it's a holiday weekend? It doesn't have to be fancy, just clean and not in a bad area.

We don't mind staying somewhere near Orlando like Kissimmee.

Since you are going to be going over a holiday and also when a lot of schools have already left out, I would have reservations. Summertime is one of the busiest times for Orlando, so it can be hard to find a room. There is a good chance Disney's hotels will be sold out.

If you don't mind really where you stay, it will be easier to find something. But, you may have to check a few hotels, so I would bring phone numbers a long and call once you have an idea and find out which ones still have availability. That is a lot easier than having to drive around to try and find something. Also, be sure to have a book from AAA or something that will give your reviews/stars so you know what you are getting into.

If at all possbile, I would try to reserve the room to make sure you get a place that will work for you. You shouldn't have a problem, but I think I would rather have the reservations.

Have a great time!

I would definately make reservations. All holiday weekends are busy there. Consider staying in Kissimmee (it's closer to Disneyworld), along West US 192 - there are plenty of hotels to choose from - the Ramada Plaza is a good choice, but steer well clear of the Hawaiian Resort (7514 W. 192) as a place to stay - last time I stayed there, it was a little buggy.

There are also plenty of places to eat along there:
Black Angus - in the Hawaiian lobby (good food, if a little pricey - say hi to Teena, the bartender for me - Paul from the UK (not Wednesdays))
Houlihan's - ask Teena for directions (pricey but superb)
Ace Buffet - Chinese buffet about 2mi west from Black Angus - all u can eat $9.99
TGI Friday's - about 3/4mi west of Angus
Avoid Bennigan's, east of I-4, opposite Old Town

I could go on forever

Have a great vacation

Make reservations in advance if you can. Even if you try making reservations for 2 nights in Orlando, 2 nights elsewhere and so on but holiday weekends are busy in Central FL.

You may get lucky. But i suggest you make a reservation. Hampton Inns are really nice and inexpensive in Orlando. There policy is a 24 hour cancellation without any fees. So all you have to do is decide the night before whether your going or not.

Unless you have relatives in the area to stay with or dont mind sleeping in the car, you would be better off just reserving somewhere now. The summer is prime vacation time down there and i wouldnt want to push my luck,.
