If the nurses gave your baby a bottle in the hospital it will be hard to get him to take the breast. With the bottle he gets instant gratification and does not have to try to hard to get his food. The breast isn't as easy and he needs to suck hard and for awhile to get milk. Keep trying and he may take to it.

Also try expressing some milk from your breasts o make sure you have some. My second(i have three)would constantly suck to nurse and always cried. At the doctor he had lost weight. We then found out my right breast was not producing any milk.

If all else fails, try pumping your milk ( avent breast pump is good) and feeding that to your baby in a bottle. He then gets all the nutrients and benefits and you know you doing right for your baby.

I hope I helped some, GOOD LUCK!!

Keep trying, maybe even contact a lactation consultant. Make sure he's latching on correctly.
Don't resort to the bottle, breastfed babies really shouldn't be given a bottle until nursing is established. Once you get him on the breast, no more bottles until he's used to your breast, unless your supplementing on doctor's orders.

Keep trying until he gets it. Always offer the breast first and even during a bottle feeding, take him off the bottle and try the breast again.

my baby was like that when she was also a week old. try using breast pump and placing your breastmilk in the feeding bottle. there's no difference because what is important is that he is able to drink your milk:)
