Ramen noodles, lunchables and iceberg lettuce while pregnant! Has anybody ever heard that? What is up with people giving super bad advise? If I were to listen to everybody on here I wouldn’t be eating anything but bananas, toast and water during this pregnancy!

Plus, if that were true my baby would already be dead, because I've eaten a whole lot of ramen noodles.

i completly agree, the range of differernt and contradicting information out there is mad!! it seems you cannot do anything whilst being pregnant. And its not just people on this website that give bad advice, actual pregnancy websites all contradict each other to a certain extent, midwifes/docs give diff opinions of what they think it right? it is very confusing esp during your first pregnancy when you worry constantly if you are doing the right thing!!
My aunt told me when she was expecting her children around 40 years ago, the "current health advice" to pregnant woman was that they should not drink more than a few glasses of wine - incase they fell over when drunk and hurt the baby haha, i thought this was quite funny,

There are some pregnancy Nazis out there who have a lot of weird ideas....

That said, I'm sure you know ramen noodles aren't exactly a nutritional heavy lifter, so I wouldn't make them a staple in my diet, whether or not you're pregnant. You can ramp up the nutrients by adding veggies, eggs, chicken, or shrimp, etc.

Ramen noodles also have a TON of MSG (monosodium glutamate) which isn't great for you either. But an occasional bowl does no harm of course! Enjoy. I eat things with msg sometimes, including ramen noodles, and I am very careful about what I eat during my pregnancy.

As for iceberg lettuce, of course there is nothing wrong with that. Again, not loaded with nutrients, but its still a vegetable! Romaine, spinach, and just about any other lettuce has more nutrients, but if you like iceberg, go for it!

As for lunchables, I wouldn't eat them if you paid me, whether or not I was pregnant....

Just because someone says a thing, it doesn't mean you do it . You use your brain and check things out. Check the ingredients and the added spices, salts, etc. You know that too much sodium and etc. isn't good for anyone much less a pregnant woman. Any pre-packaged stuff if loaded with things you shouldn't have at anytime. A lot of people eat those noodles all the time not realizing what's going in their body's.
If you want noodles in moderation; get some of the plain 100% whole grain durum wheat. It's all natural ingredients. Cook them as directed on the box and add whatever you want in them to taste. More people are cooking from scratch to avoid so many preservatives. It's healthier. It's also, recommended not to use any enriched flour and corn meal, etc. The enriched products have had the good stuff taken out, to allow the product to last longer on the shelf, but the unenriched is the way it should be
I haven't heard anything about iceberg lettuce; I've got some in my refrigerator. I wash it and drain it before eating.
So many products are misleading by their wording. They make you think it's the best and good for you.
Good luck to you and your new baby.

you really arent supposed to eat luchables because cold cuts can cause listeria. The only thing wrong with ramen noodle soup is that it has a lot of sodium and that can make you retain water. I like the noodles too, but I usually make them without the seasoning. I have no clue what is wrong with iceburg lettuce.

Yeah no kidding! I eat so many lunchables at work! It's almost scary to think some people will follow the advice given here without blinking twice! Of course they're a lot of informative people who post on this site also, don't get me wrong.

I don't know about the Ramen noodles, but there are OB/GYN's who recommend not eating lunchmeat because of the risk of listeria and not eating too many raw vegetables because of the risk of e.coli. My doctor did not say that and I did eat lettuce and lunchmeat, but there are doctors who give this advice for real (although very slight) health reasons.

They don't recommend those things...Ramen noodles because of the crap load of MSG that isn't good for you, Period. Lunchables because of the lunchmeats put you at risk for getting listeria and Iceberg lettuce...I'm not sure why, maybe the listeria thing, but Iceburg lettuce doesn't have hardly any nutritional value anyways.

Why all the thumbs down...I was just saying why they would say not to eat those things.

i was super into ramen noodles during my first pregnancy. the lettace might be from not washing it thoroughly, but the last i checked we have a little known agency called the FDA. can we say "dateline" and "recall"?? both my kids are very healthy. the oldest hates ramen tho
