It depends on what time of year you are coming, and what you plan to do once you are here!
Our weather can be very unpredictable. For example, at this moment we have snow on the ground from a previous snow storm, but it is thundering and threatening rain. And we had sleet earlier in the day.
Spring is very slow in arriving. Trees and flowers will not start blooming here until late April. And it can still be quite chilly up until mid May. Spring is usually very wet as well.
The summers here are nice, in my opinion. The locals complain about humidity, but then, they did not grow up in the deep south! It gets hot here July through early September, then cools off quickly. Not much of a fall season.
So, I am not sure if that answers your question. One thing for certain--bring a sturdy pair of shoes to walk in. Chicago is a city best enjoyed at the ground level.
Hope you have a great time!

You definitely want a warm coat, and probably a warm hat and gloves. Right now, it's 35 degrees and snowing here! Also, if you're coming in the winter, bring some sensible walking shoes that aren't suede-the streets are sometimes a bit slippery and slushy. Make sure you have good sunglasses, and bring that credit card! Pretty much everything here in Chicago costs money, unless you can manage to be here on the days that certain museums have a free day.
Have fun in the Windy City!
