If your running Windows XP or 2000 using a earlier version of windows like 95, 98 will not really help you if your using an NTFS file system, as dos won't be able to read your drive as it is meant for systems running a fat 16 or 32 file system. You can run Dos from XP look for the MS Dos program file in your programme list.
I wouldn't recommend you run Dos on a NTFS file system as it might act a little erratic, or even fail, if you try to run it on a reboot.

You haven't said what operating system you have got. If it is Windows XP then you can't start it in a dos mode as XP hasn't got DOS as such. It has got what is called command prompt and to go into command prompt try this:
Start, Run
Type "cmd" without the quotes
You will go into small command prompt screen and you can use the old dos command to copy, delete etc.
However, why and what exactly do you want to do as there must be a better way to do what you want to do.
Hope this helps.

If you have a Windows 98 cd you can boot into dos with cd-rom support. So you can access your files in your hard drive only if they are formated with FAT32 and not NTFS.

Hi,
One way with a "dreadful" Seimens is to put the line :
C:\DOS
In the command auto.exe file
As opposed to something like " WIN4"
It shold crank up in the system area first.
Best of.
