Vandalia onions will grow from both the seeds or the bulbs that you can purchase in a garden center.

If you want to grow very large Vandalia onions, you need a loam type soil to which is added a lot of Bone Meal. That bone meal is similar to "super phosphate' , which is what the farmers of onions side dress their onion fields with only in a chemical liquid form. So for the homeowner, use bone meal and you will have super onions, Do NOT use high nitrogen fertilizers on onions as that will cause lots of top growth and little bulb growth.

Seeds or plants either one, but unless you live in Vidalia Co. GA, it won't technichly be a Vidalia onion. The closest thing is probably the yellow granex hybrid. They are pretty reliable to produce nearly the same thing depending on your growing conditions. It's hard to duplicate the precise conditions of another area and the soil and weather of Vidalia happen to bring exceptional results for the sweet onion.
