that is usually a good sign of adrenal disease or cancer. Is your ferret older (3-4yrs plus?) I would take it to the vet- there are some cheaper treatments if you catch it early enough.
If it is what hair loss normally means in ferrets- the only way to prevent it is to get her on the meds asap. S/he might eventually grow that hair back, but the meds might let her keep the hair that is left.

Well there are 2 things that it could be. Do you see any bold spots? In so that might be a sign of adrenal. Take your fuzzy to the vet. If the hail is growing in slowly as the old is comming out then your fuzzy is just shedding. Depending on the climate they can shed early. I have 2 that already went through the shedding this month. Keep an eye on your ferret and if there are no baldness then it's just an ealy shedding season for her/him.

Ferrets are known for having adrenal gland disorders. This REQUIRES a trip to the vet. On the other hand it could just be normal shedding. The only way to know for sure is to use your judgment. I can't personally see how much hair your ferret is losing so I really don't know what to tell you. One thing is for sure...it is one of the above.

Good luck and take care of that fuzzer!
