I find it easier to use Winamp and add my songs in there and use shuffle, but you can do it with Windows Media Player.

I'm using version 10 so if you're using something older, the instructions may differ a little.

For me, all my music is located in one folder in a bunch of subdirectories. First, navigate to where your music is stored on your computer. Go to My Computer and find it, or you can also use Windows Explorer, or even Start > Run > (type in the location). Once your there, select all your music. The easiest way to do this is by hitting CTRL-A on your keyboard. With Media Player open, DRAG those files into the "Now Playing List" in Media Player. If you have a lot of music, this could take a couple minutes for it to process. Now that all your music in Media Player it should be able to play but to make it shuffle, look for the icon in the bottom right it looks like a down arrow, an up arrow and then an arrow which goes counter-clockwise in a square around it. Click this until the whole thing is darkened. This will set it to shuffle and repeat all. Alternatively, hitting CTRL-H will toggle shuffle, and CTRL-T toggles repeat.
