Do you find it a little strange that so many people have pets, yet they are still meat-eaters?

Not really. General speaking people don't eat their pets. Even on a farm, most farmers won't name their animals if their intended for the slaughter. Once an animal is given a name, then a personal connection is made, and then in turn, harder to kill.
