Have a lovely necklace, cheap but lovely. But when I wear it it dirities my neck and turns it a greeny black. Do I need to clean it or is that the metal?

It's because the metal is cheap, I have always heard you can put a coat of clear nail polish on it to stop it from turning your skin green.

It is the metal (the nickel content specifically). You should coat the metal in clear nail polish and re-do it everytime it starts to stain your neck.

Paint over the metal with clear nail varnish, I did that because I had a nickel bracelet that did the same, it works!

the metal used is called nickel and it turns your skin green. You can really only wear that kind of jewelry once in a while

I had one that made my neck greeninsh/greyish, that styed there like for months...dont leave the necklace on when having a bath/shower, dont wet it...Plus if it is cheap then its a crap one...so better throw the necklace away coz it nwill spoil your skin...

its cheap dump it even if you think its nice others probably don't cheap jewellery can be spotted a mile off is that how you want to be remembered as the girl who wears the gammy cheap jewellery?take a look at liz from coronation st you will know exactly what i mean

Yes that is the metal. If I were you, I wouldn't wear it anymore.
Should you see another piece of jewellry that you like next time, make sure it is nickle free before you buy it.

it is a chemical reaction between the oils in you skin and the metel. when you wear if keep a small pack of wet ones or baby wipes in your purse when you go to the bathroom check and if your neck is going slightly discoloured wipe it away.
you could always try clear nailvarnish. i use that if the button on my jeans irriates my skin.
