and it worked fine for hours. THEN I replaced the other outlet in a different bathroom, and noticed the other one not working suddenly. The outlet I just replaced is also not working. What gives?

Also, the 2nd outlet I replaced was initially an outlet with a reset switch. It has 2 sets of white and black wires and one ground wire. I am wanting to replace it with a standard outlet. How do I do this.

the first receptacle you wired correctly the second you did not. The first one is a run off of the second one and when it isn't working then the other can't work either. Go back and recheck your wiring for the second receptacle. You may find that it is very simple thing like not having tighten up the screw the hold the wire down and when you put it back in place it just pooped off. recheck #2

Note; do not change out a dedicated receptacle with a standard receptacle, this is for your protection and anyone that uses the bathroom

Something tells me you shorted out the circuit while replacing the second outlet. The circuit breaker should be in trip position of fuse blown. The outlet with the reset button is a GFCI outlet and is legally required in bathroom and any other water locations. The GFCI should have been in the first bathroom and will protect any other outlets falling in line behind it. On the back of the GFCI is two words; line and load. Line is the power line coming from the power source, electrical panel, and load is every other outlet following in line with the GFCI. On the sides of the GFCI are either gold or silver colored screws. The silver crews are for the neutral or white colored wires, the gold screws are for the hot or black wires and the green screw usually at the bottom is for the bare copper or green wires. This color scheme is used for regular outlets too except that line and load are not marked on the outlet. Hope this helps and please make sure the electricity is off before tempting this. Good luck

A bit of advice - if you do not know what you are doing, then stop now. Bathroom outlets are usually different than regular outlets. The kind that goes into a bathroom are called ground fault interrupters. The reason for this is in case the thing that you have plugged into the outlet falls into the sink, shower, or bathtub. Instead of shocking you, the outlet cuts off and saves your life. these outlets must be installed in a correct manner, especially if you link several of them together.

Look to see if the outlet has a push button labeled "RESET" if so push it and see if that helps you. If not, then get an electrician over to help you out.

I do not want to scare you, but you may be in danger if the outlet is not the right type or if installed incorrectly.

Many possible causes. Did you check for a breaker tripped? Maybe you didn't get the 2nd outlet wired back in right. I'd pull it out and recheck your work; if it's bad there, the original won't work either if it's downstream. You pushed the "reset" button on them? (assuming their GFI). It's possible just pulling the wiring at the 2nd outlet disturbed a poor connection nearby. I would check all nearby outlets to see what others might not work. If there's no voltage at the wires coming into the box, and the breaker is not tripped, you'll need to get an electrician w/ a tracer to track it down. They're not wired in series otherwise they would have never worked.

Why would you replace the outlet? The one with the reset switch is a GFI outlet. This will prevent you from being electrocuted if something electrical falls gets wet or into water.

If you are tripping that circuit, there is a problem with the wiring or there are too many things plugged into the series of outlets.

That is a GFI outlet that is for grounding. You have 2 white and 2 black because it carries over too the other outlet, you replace it only with another GFI because it prevents electrocution.

It sounds like those outlets were wired in series - remove one, than all the other outlets go out too. Maybe you need to remove both new outlets, put the second one in first and the first one in second.
