Both John Hinckley and Mark David Chapman were obsessed with this book, the latter going as far as to quote the novel in the police report.

Is there any other infamous characters like these two who had an odd penchant for the novel?

Certainly not our president, who, it is claimed,reads only "the sports pages", NASCAR weekly, and just one novel, so far: "My Pet Goat" ;)))
