I just found out last night that my husband and I are pregnant.
6 weeks.

But, I have a full time job, a sales rep, and I'm in my car and driving all day. I love my job.

But, now I'm nervous about other cars hitting me. Or getting into an accident.

And I know this will continue for the next 8 months.

Suggestions?

If you're going to worry about every little thing that could happen to you, then why did you get pregnant? You obiviously wanted a child, so regardless of whether or not you love your job, the question should be.... should I become a hermit or live my life to the fullest?

You are experiencing what is called 'pregnancy paranoia' and it's ABSOLUTELY NORMAL. Because your body is now 'the only protection' for that child you are carrying, such things like 'car accidents' take on a whole 'bigger thing' in your life. You are NOT 'more likely to get into an accident' than you were when you were 'not pregnant' but you are 'thinking about what could happen' to that 'child inside you' far more than you ever 'thought about what could happen to you' before you got pregnant. If this 'really bothers you' so that you can't 'drive' in the same 'good way' you always have, then you need to 'quit driving' or you could 'get into an accident' ... and that may mean that you must take 'maternity leave' from your job, or ask if you can 'change your job' to something that won't have you 'on the road' so much, or at all.
Your 'mental outlook' is JUST AS IMPORTANT as your 'physical condition' when you are pregnant ... and you should be as 'cool, calm, and collected' as possible, even if this means that you must 'run to see the doctor' more often than others, or must 'quit your job' or get a new job ... you may 'seem crazy' to others, but you should know that what you are 'going through' is 'simply pregnancy' ... and while you are 'newly pregnant' it may seem that you will be preganant 'forever' ... but it's only 'forty weeks' from start to finish, and then you will enter a 'new life' ... that of being a mother ... and you will also still have to be 'a good wife' to your husband' ... he'll also have to get used to being 'a father' and not 'just a husband' ... but if you take everything 'calmly' and 'learn as you go' your life in the end will be 'just fine for you' ... and that's why you should go ahead and 'be paranoid' now about 'driving' and 'car accidents' and not think that you are 'going insane' ... you're just a 'new mother' learning a 'new way of seeing things' ... and you'll be 'JUST FINE' if you 'go with that flow' even if you don't 'totally understand it'.

The best answer I can give is for you to do everything you can to reduce your stress level caused by driving. For example, leave early with plenty of time to spare. You won't be in a rush and if you're stuck in traffic you won't stress as much. Have your car checked by a mechanic - to make sure it is good working condition. Then you won't worry over it breaking down or being the cause of an accident. Same thing with the tires. Have the air level checked every couple of weeks. Then make the car as comfortable for you as you can. A lumbar pillow might help the further along you are in your pregnancy. Doing these things will not definitely stop an accident but they will make it less likely. They will also lower your stress level and make driving enjoyable for you thru your entire pregnancy. Good luck to you.

I have the same type of job.. I am now 27 weeks and 2 days. It has been OK, I am just more cautious. As you get further along, sitting in the car all day will be trying for your body and it will wear you out. Take breaks during the day to stretch and just make sure you wear your seat belt.....

Wear your seatbelt, drive extra careful and not in questionable weather conditions. You may find there comes a point where you feel the "nesting instinct" and just want to retreat to your cave and prepare the nest, so to speak. If you want to keep the job you're in, just remember that being pregnant can make you feel tired and spacy, so practice extra vigilance.

Just make sure you wear your seat-belt and if you can push your seat back a little further (and still comfortably drive) to create more distance between you and the air-bag go for it.

Ooooh, and be sure to have some zip lock freezer Baggies handy just in case you get sick, you can vomit without having to do a panic pull-over. I know it's gross, but it's also very practical.

If you talk on your phone while you are driving you might want to try and hands free set that way you still have both hands on the wheel wich can make you feel more in control and can move your head around to keep an eye out for other drivers.

well, I used to walk to work every day. I had to cross 3 major streets and had to walk in snow, rain and sleet. I chanced myself getting hit by cars, falling and breaking bones and possibly getting hit by buses. it's a chance we all take in the day but who knows our life can end at any moment. good luck with your pregnancy and I hope you do well.

Your chances of being involved in an auto accident aren't any greater now that you're pregnant.
Just do what you normally do... try to enjoy your pregnancy.
