open ur browser, goto to Tools>internet options
from the popup window, slect General tab (if not already selected)
click the Delete Cookies button
Cookies is a small file that websites store on ur computer. its is a way for websites to *track* you, once u start navigating through their sites. It was intended to be a *good* thing, but like everything, people abuse it, so you have bad cookies (track where u go and report it to someone) and good cookies (only track u when ur on their site). the main reason why u would allow for a site to set a cookie on ur machine is say, ur buying something on an online store. As the internet is *stateless * by design (meaning one page doesnt know anything about the next page u goto), then website that are trying to do legit business need to track who *you* are as u navigate around their site and place things in the *shopping cart*. Thats a good scenario why u would need/want to save a cookie from a website on ur machine... all others, no way...
to set ur browser to *ask* u anytime u want to save a cooke (FOR IE6), goto Tools>Internet Options. select Privacy tab, click the advance button. then click on PROMPT for First and Third party cookies... Now when u hit a website that wants to save a cookie on ur machine, a dialog box will come up and say,( wants to save a cookie on ur machine, do you want to let them? yes/no. If its a ligit site that you do business with (like yahoo!, then say yes) if not then No...
a good rule of thumb is, if you have to login with credentials, then u need to allow that website to set cookies on ur machine.
Yikes! the answer was quite long.. sorry.
