K-2: Very Hungry Catapillar
Horton Hatches an Egg
Wemberly Worries
Chysthamin (spelling??? It's by Kevin Henks)

3-5: Frindle (excellent!!!!)
Mr. Poppers Penguins
Charlotte's Web

My favorite books from when I was in 3rd grade were Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle books! I loved reading those. They are a little old fashioned for today's kids but if you read it to them, they'll get it.

Anything by Roald Dahl, especially The BFG and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Also love the Magic Faraway Tree - good to see it so well remembered.

And traditional fairytales. Always good and useful to have a knowledge of particularly if they are going to read books like that postman book with the letters in it (v good) or something like Prince Cinders.

Stig of the Dump. A little boy goes to stay with his aunt ( I think) and goes out to play at a dump amongst all the rubbish and discovers a neanderthal boy still living there. Sounds awful but my kids love it too. The Narnia books, Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl and The Borrowers
