What are the cheapest options for putting the PC in the bedroom without drilling and routing cables. What i really want is a device at my existing bt socket which transmits to a device installed in my pc. It will only be about 5-8 meters away. I'm just not aware of the terminology and devices that are available!

I'm on talktalk 8mb broadband with an ethernet modem at the moment.

Please help...

You really need a wireless router. Make sure it has an ethernet connection which can then plug in to your modem. Buy a wireless card (internal PCI ) or external wireless USB link to connect to the wireless router. You can get some good deals now on a router and USB interface package. Search the web such as Misco or go and visit your local PC World

Get a wireless router & hook the main part ( the transmitter with The two small antennas on it ) to the modem downstairs & hook up the stick antenna into a port in the back of the tower. That should re-route the signal to the PC upstairs, but make sure this works before moving all that stuff upstairs. Maybe borrow a router from a friend & see if it does the trick , then get one IF it works, which I'm not promising.

I have the same situation - the phone jack is downstairs from the computer. I got a Belkyn wireless router/modem, & a belkyn USB wireless adapter (together in one boxed kit) - the wireless router/moden lives downstairs with just the small usb adapter plugged into the computer - it works fine, without wires going downstairs, & its easy to set up. I tried other makes, but theyre fraught with difficulties unless the router is actually plugged into the computer

Use the cheap Wireless Routers and connect it to the Ethernet jack then buy a cheap network adapter and connect to the wireless router and you have internet.

You could also use N Wireless but its a little more expansive but much faster and longer range.

You could go WiFi, but I personally like to use a wired connection, as I don't have to bother with encryption to keep my neighbors out of my system.

hi, Technically with dial-up you ought to use Skype.... although, that's certainly recommened which you employ broadband. in case you employ dial-up you will experience choppiness besides as ignored packets. keep on your interior of sight, long-distance, and international calls -- spend somewhat on your information superhighway connection.
