kicking is all mechanics. You have to kick through the ball, and have a proper follow through. Open your hips too soon, and the ball goes left. The toe on your plant foot should be pointing the direction you want to kick the ball.

Practice, practice, practice.

To be a good kicker takes alot of time and PRACTICE!!! At 13 you are at a good time to start. There are alot of good resources on the net that can help you along the way. There are many kicking camps held by kickers like Doug Brien and other former NFL players. But what you can do now is learn the basics in lining up with the ball and kick to get your body use to kicking also weightlifting and stretching is vital. But if you are trying for a team one must get into a season/off season mode where you are lifting weights 3 days a weeks and kicking 2 days and in season mode lift 2 days and kick 3. Any more help you can shoot me a email

Get a kicking trainer, dude. To be really good, you need to have perfect form, and a trainer could fix everything while also helping you develop.

Even then, you might not make it to the pros. There are about 35 kickers in the NFL, counting kickoff specialists and whatnot, and hundreds of millions of Americans that aren't kickers. The odds are a little bit against you.

Try kicking with a weight attached to your leg. Not too much, just a pound. If you kick with a weight, over and over again, then when you take the weight off, you will notice a huge difference.

1) Get these two books: Kicking the Football byCoach Glenn "doc" Storey(1949-but it's in any good Library's sports section)
and the "Fundementals of Special Teams Play" By Coach George Allen(someof you might remember he was the first coach to take theWashingtonRed(dead)skins to a SB.
I have used both these books both to Coach Kickers and When i was a Kicker myself

2) Go down to a Park with GoalPosts early when no one is there. Take 6 Footballs & 6 Tees with you. Line up two Balls each at distances-Shorter first, then get farther out as you get better. Start at 20 Yards first-if you can't make that first at 2-2, then 4-4, move in to 15 yards. once you make 20 yards, move out to 25.....

3) you will need a "kicking" shoe,...one that is Snug on your foot but not as tight or loose as what you wear on your "Plant" foot...A low cut shoe,..because you want your ankle to freely rotate. Your Plant show can be a 3/4 's if you need support for you plant foot....

4) for Place kicks,..learn to work with your holder. He needs to place the ball "LACES" facing you and strait up, NOT Angled!!!
Some soccer style kickers kick this way(ball slanted) but thats afte ryears of Practice!!!
